GOLDEN JUBILEE OF RELIGIOUS PROFESSION - REV SR DOREEN

With great joy and thanksgiving the Generalate - Somarpann celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the Religious Profession of Rev. Sr Doreen D’Souza our former Superior General and Rev. Sr Anita Pereira of North East Province presently the member of Subodhini Community, Panir. The thanksgiving Eucharist was held at the auditorium of the Generalate. Don Francesco officiated at the Mass which was   concelebrated by Rev Fr Denis Suares the parish priest of Panir Parish.

The 50 years of Religious Profession of Rev Sr Doreen D’Souza was celebrated in a grand manner at Holy Rosary Convent. Most Rev Dr. Francis Serrao, Bishop of Shimoga was the main celebrant. Fr Melwyn D’Souza ofm cap preached the homily. 10 priests concelebrated. Sr Doreen’s Sister Mrs Joseline and her family from London were the special guests. Sr Susheela Sequeira presided over the felicitation programme. Sr Lily Fernandes read the citation on behalf of the Community, Mr Eric Ozario spoke on behalf of the family. Sr Doreen’s batch mates, nine of them joined to share her joy. Nearly 300 people were present.

90TH BIRTHDAY OF HOLY FACE CONVENT, VORKADY

The Holy Face Convent, Vorkady turned 90 in the month of November. In celebration of this the Sisters of the Community held a thanksgiving mass on 10th December 2017. Sr Susheela Sequeira and Sr Milly Fernandes attended the Eucharistic Celebration along with the Provincial and Councillors of Mangalore Province and joined the Sisters to thank God for the marvels done by the Lord through our pioneers in Vorkady and the apostolic effectiveness that has been seen in the area because of the Sisters’ hard work and faith.

ZONAL LEVEL URSULINE FRANCISCAN BLOOMS CONFERENCE

December 1 and 2, 2017 are red letter days in the annals of the Ursuline Franciscan Congregation. Our Ursuline Franciscan Blooms celebrated First annual Conference in their respective zones.  998 Ursuline Franciscan Blooms from 34 schools attended the conference in 11 Zones and enjoyed the whole day.

VISIT OF DON FRANCESCO AND ASSOCIATES

We were privileged and blessed with the visit of Don Francesco, Annarita, Danielle, Ulisse, Giovanni and Gualteri, our benefactors from Italy from 29th November to 6thDecember 2017. Their visit included many programmes such as Platinum Jubilee Celebration of De Mercede Orphanage -Panir, Golden Jubilee Celebration of Rev Sr Doreen our former Superior General and Sr Anita Pereira and Decennial Celebration of Padre Pio Chapel- Vamanjoor.

EXTENDED COUNCIL MEETING

The Extended Council Meeting -2017 was held at Somarpann- Generalate from 1st to 4thNovember 2017. On the first two days of the Meeting the General Council met the individual Councils of different Provinces / Regions/ Delegation and held discussions on various issues related to the respective Provinces/ Regions/Delegation. On 3rd and 4th November Rev. Fr Alvito Fernandes OCD gave the members of the Extended Council a reflective input sessions on the theme of the Extended Council Meeting, ‘ UFS: Commissioned to Launch into the Deep’.

PROVINCE DAYS: NORTH EAST, NORTH AND HUBLI

The Provinces of North, North East and Huballi organised the Province day of their respective Provinces in the month of October 2017. The Superior General Rev Sr Susheela Sequeira presided over the Province day of Huballi Province, Sr Milly Fernandes the Councillor General of North Province, and Sr Juliana Pinto the Councillor General of North East Province. Sr Lilly Pinto and Sr Lydia Serrao were the Guest of Honour of the Province day of North and North East Province respectively. The Superior General and the Councillors were happy to witness the joy, unity, co-operation exhibited in organising the Province day, and the rich talents of our Sisters presented in varieties of manner with creativity.

BASIC COUNSELING COURSE

A week’s Seminar from 24thSeptember to 2nd October 2017 for the teachers under the management of UFES on Basic counselling skills was organised by Rev Sr Lilly Pinto the Secretary of UFES at Somarpann- Generalate.  28 teachers from the different schools attended the seminar.

PERPETUAL PROFESSION

23 Sisters made their perpetual profession at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia- Mangalore. They professed three vows namely Chastity, Poverty and Obedience in the presence of Rev. Sr Susheela Sequeira, Superior General of the Congregation during the solemn Eucharistic celebration.   The Mass was officiated by Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore and was concelebrated by about 74 Priests and was witnessed by a large number of Sisters, parents and relatives of the Sisters and well - wishers.

INSTALLATION OF ULTRA SOUND MACHINE

In the field of Health, the Province has made development. Installing the Ultra-Sound machine at the Hartmann Community Health Centre in 2017 is a great achievement indeed. It will enable us to reach out to people more effectively.

PROGRAMME IN VILLAGES AND SLUMS

Outreach programme in villages and slums through students of higher classes of the three schools in the Province is the next task to be taken up. Assisi School at Bahedi has already initiated the work.

SOCIAL WELFARE ACTIVITIES

The Province has regular social welfare activities with a full-time Sister at the following places: Hartmann at Bareilly, Assisi at Bahedi, St James at Hardoi, Shree Yesu Ashram at Mirpur and Jeevan Dhara at Lucknow.

St Francis Convent at Guma, Pashimbanga is the addition to the above list. Formation of SHGs has taken place in 5 villages so far. The work will be extended to more villages.
