North Province Chapter

The great event of the North Province – The VIII Province Chapter  was held from 10th to 14th November 2021 at Jeevandhara Provincialate, Lucknow. Having been stirred and motivated by the Spirit of the Lord and being enlightened by the reflections of the retreat done prior to the Chapter, the 33 delegates of the VIII Province Chapter gathered together under the direction and moderation of Very Rev Sr Susheela Sequeira the Superior General who was the President of the Chapter and Sr Milly Fernandes the Assistant Superior General who assisted her. The Chapter theme was “Repair My House”. The discussions, deliberations and the Acts and Decisions of the Chapter were centered on this theme. On the 12th of November in the canonical election held the Chapter delegates   elected the New Provincial Superior in the person of Rev Sr Benedicta Tellis, Sr Jacintha Crasta Assistant Provincial, Sr Antonette the second Councilor, Sr Suzi the third Councilor and Sr Albina Kujur the fourth Councilor.

Prior to the Chapter a six day’s retreat for the Chapter Delegates was held for the delegates. under the direction of Rev Fr. Dolpy Pias OFM Cap on the theme “ Repair My House.” In an elaborated way he explained how one can repair one’s own House; by being Contemplative, Creative and Courageous.  By being courageous one can conquer oneself, which is the biggest challenge today for everyone and especially to the religious which will lead one to renew, repair and rebuild oneself better. In connection with this he said how we need to be connected with the inner net than the internet. This could be achieved through a strong prayer life and inner freedom, not being caught up by the cares of the world. The preacher made clear to us the elements of a good community living where members have to avoid fear of one another and live in Fraternal Economy rich in love, compassion, forgiveness, patience, joyfulness and so on. On the last day he summed up all his sessions under the theme “Franciscan Leadership” he said, a leader should be man or woman of Relationship. He or she should have the ability to develop greatness in others. In conclusion he gave us 10 principles for effective leadership.

We  remain indebted  to God for his blessing received through the instrumentality of the out going team members Rev Sr Shanthi D’ Souza the outgoing Provincial Superior and the Provincial Councilor Rev Sr Philomen Fernandes for their valuable service rendered during the term of  office. They have contributed to the fullest. May God continue to bless them abundantly in the service and mission of Christ.
