THE STORY OF CLARE SADAN
A Home of Care, Compassion and Hope
Every home begins with a dream. Clare Sadan Senior Citizen Home began with a dream born from compassion—the desire to create a safe and loving place where senior citizens could live with dignity, care, companionship and peace.
Situated in the serene surroundings of Kulshekar, Mangaluru, Clare Sadan is a ministry of the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters, Mangalore Province. Rooted in the Franciscan spirit of simplicity, service and compassionate love, the Home seeks to care for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of senior citizens.
The dream of Clare Sadan received a generous foundation when Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Helen D'Silva donated 18 cents of land for the construction of the Senior Citizen Home. With the support of benefactors, well-wishers, professionals and dedicated workers, the vision gradually became a reality.
A significant milestone was reached on 6 December 2022, when Clare Sadan was solemnly blessed and inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru, in the presence of the Pioneers Sr Florine D Souza and Sr Lucia D Souza and Sisters of the Province, donors, Priests, well-wishers and friends. The occasion included Thanksgiving, prayer, the blessing of the chapel and premises, and a joyful gathering. It marked the beginning of a new mission of love and service to the elderly.
A HOME FOR COMFORT AND CARE
Clare Sadan provides a safe, peaceful and welcoming environment with comfortable accommodation, dining facilities, common spaces for relaxation and recreation, and essential facilities for the safety and mobility of residents. The lift, ventilation and other safety arrangements contribute to their comfort and independence.
The chapel offers a peaceful space for Eucharistic celebrations, prayer and reflection, enriching the spiritual life of the residents.
HOLISTIC HEALTHCARE AND SUPPORT
The health and well-being of residents receive special attention. Doctors from prominent hospitals and healthcare institutions in Mangaluru visit the Home for medical consultations and guidance. Residents can also avail themselves of the services of a psychiatric doctor, homeopathy doctor, physiotherapist and counsellors, according to their individual needs.
Regular health monitoring, medication follow-up, medical appointments, investigations and hospital visits are coordinated by the Sisters and caregivers. When specialized treatment is required, residents are accompanied and supported in accessing appropriate healthcare facilities.
CARE BEYOND THE HOME
Clare Sadan also assists residents in accessing essential services such as hospitals, banks and other necessary facilities. Support is provided for medical appointments, investigations, banking needs and personal errands, especially when residents require assistance.
A PLACE OF FELLOWSHIP AND JOY
Life at Clare Sadan is enriched through companionship, recreation and celebrations. Birthdays, festivals and special occasions are celebrated together, creating joy, friendship and a sense of belonging.
More than providing accommodation, Clare Sadan strives to create a family-like atmosphere where every resident is respected, listened to and valued. Each person brings a unique story and a lifetime of memories, and the Home seeks to honour those stories with love and dignity.
Today, Clare Sadan continues its journey as a home of care, compassion and hope, through the dedicated service of the Sisters, staff, healthcare professionals, benefactors and well-wishers.
