Re-vision of Charism and Spirituality

The General Chapter of 2004 mandated Sr Doreen D’Souza, the Superior General and her Council to reinterpret the charism and spirituality of the Ursuline Franciscan Congregation. With the collective study and reflection, the Congregation has been able to go deeper into its roots, sound traditions, spirit and the patrimony, and to offer to the members a substantial and extensive insight of their charism and spirituality. Today as Ursuline Franciscan Sisters we rearticulate our charism: We launch deeper into the life of the people solely ‘for the love of God’ in simplicity of life, and proclaim the message of the fullness of life of God’s Kingdom.

We make our own a specific Trinitarian Spirituality drawn from the three dimensions of Jesus’ reality, namely his ‘Abba-experience’ of love – spirituality of relationship vividly  experienced by St Angela Merici, his experience of freedom – spirituality of Kenosis lived vibrantly by St Francis of Assisi and his experience of Spirit’s power – spirituality of discernment intensely sought after by our Founder, Fr Urban Stein SJ. These three sources influence Ursuline Franciscans’ thinking, believing, acting and living and make us effective messengers of Christ to the world.
